The Department
Our Catering Department manages one of the largest and most diverse catering operations in Hong Kong. We provide a wide range of catering, sports and recreation facilities for Members and their guests in three Clubhouses. In addition, both Happy Valley and Sha Tin Racecourses have numerous catering facilities used by Members, non-members and corporate organizations for a variety of functions.
The job holder is responsible for managing the Gyms of the Valley and Hilltop through providing Members and guest a safe and comfortable place to work out with excellent level of services while maintaining the Gyms’ profitability.
The job holder shall work with the Gym Manager to manage a team of staff, oversee the operations, safety and cleanliness of the Gyms, ensure the delivery of high-quality fitness advice and customer care, meet the department’s KPIs, optimize efficiency across the business, and promote marketing and sales initiatives to increase membership and sales.

The Job
You will:
- Assist to establish priorities and goals for fitness programmes and operations; oversee the running of the Gyms ensuring smooth operations and provision of high quality and up-to-date fitness training, advice, programmes and inductions to clients; plan for constant improvement of the Gyms.
- Manage the personal training and group class programmes through close monitoring the quality of delivery, clients’ attendance and feedback; maintain high level of customer care with a particular focus on avoiding loss of existing clients.
- Work with the supervisors/trainers/instructors to design and promote appropriate programmes that cater for the respective needs and abilities of different Members and guests.
- Report to the manager on the monthly revenue and performance of the Gyms against budget projections; take effective measures to attain the department’s KPIs regarding Members’ satisfaction ratings, facility utilization, subscription rate, revenues from different sources including personal training, group exercise classes, dietician services, etc.; develop and implement corrective measures and improvement initiatives as required.
- Check the equipment and other facilities of the Gyms regularly ensuring that everything is in excellent working condition and maintenance and repairs are arranged as needed.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, health and safety in the Gyms to comply with the statutory requirements and the Club’s standards to reduce injury sustained by Members and staff and minimise liability borne by the Club.
- Administer the department’s supply and procurement activities; liaise with equipment manufacturers or dealers to ensure that all pieces of exercise equipment comply with the required safety standards.
- Assist to hire and train a team of Gym staff; keep track and their attendance and performance; delegate work to specific staff; serve as a mentor who compliment individual staff when appropriate and recommend to discipline them when needed; ensure that they are dressed properly and behave in a professional manner at all times.
- Work with the manager to recommend marketing strategies and develop plans to promote the Gyms and a variety of fitness programmes based on market research or studies to increase usage and maximise income potential; organize marketing campaigns, events, seminars and promotional activities as needed.
- Handle complaints and incidents including accidents, emergencies or theft in a professional manner.
- Prepare monthly reports on the Gyms’ operational performance and incidents that come up; lead administrative functions of the department; deputize the Gym Manager in his/her absence.
- Perform any other related duties as and when assigned by supervisor.
About You
You should have:
- A Diploma or Degree in the Sports / Recreation or a related discipline
- Certified fitness trainer / personal trainer possessing ACSM, AFAA, NASM, ISSA or ACE
- Valid CPR and AED.
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience, including 2 years at managerial level.
- Sound knowledge of Gym management.
- Sound knowledge of Gym related facility management.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English.
- Fluency in Cantonese is preferred, and proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage
